These are books we are taking with us. After reading the reviews on Amazon, these were the guides we decided to get. We got most of the guides from Amazon. The Globetrotter ones come as sets: guide book + map or separately. For the same cost as getting a Globetrotter map I could get a map and guidebook together (travel pack) from Amazon. * Some countries are not covered as the latest book was not yet published. We hope to pick those up as we travel. They are included in the list below.

A Girl's Own Adventure Across Africa Any Way Any How by Jacqueline Tomlins (New Holland) 2003 ISBN 1864367792 – very different read

Running with the Moon by Jonny Bealby – I tried to read this book but found it very depressing.

Long Way Down by Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor – I found this very slow reading and not a lot of information of the countries. Bits were nice but it is very motorbike orientated. Apparently the TV series is a lot better.

South African Magazines Weg!, Getaway, Africa Geographic are full of useful articles.
